MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Sabre Voice) – After the coronavirus pandemic put a drastic halt on several summer events including sports, fans worried they would never see their favorite sports teams compete again- or at least for a long time. However, that wasn’t the case for one local baseball team.  

The Milwaukee Milkmen are an American Association of Independent Baseball team, which allowed them to move forward with their season and with fans in attendance this summer. 

Joining these fans was Marian University student, Nick Dugandzic. Working as an intern for the Milwaukee Milkmen, Nick recalls it to have been quite the experience.  

 Nick shares that during the season two Milkmen players tested positive for COVID-19.  

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the coronavirus is a highly contagious disease, meaning one or two positive cases of COVID-19 could easily become 7, 8, or more cases. 

 Nick reports that after the discovery of the two positive COVID-19 cases on the team, enhanced social distancing measures were taken along with a quarantine requirement on all team members until their test results came back negative. 

 Unfortunately, after this incident Nick says, “The internship changed because the interns were no longer allowed to be in contact with the players throughout the rest of the season and were not allowed to enter the clubhouse.” 

 Some more protocols that were put in place by the Milwaukee Milkmen to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus was to also restrict all contact with fans as well as take safety precautions when in areas outside of the diamond. 

 Nick ends by saying that out of the 1,200 fans who could attend games this summer, no fans were put at risk with the appearance of new COVID-19 cases.
