Need a Costume?

Lilly Parizek , Writer

So, you find yourself without a Halloween costume right before the costume party that you just got invited to. What do you? I have you covered with a list of my favorite costumes that you already have in your closet, can borrow from a friend, or can find at Walmart, Target, or on Amazon Prime. Keep in mind that depending on how long you procrastinated on your costume, you probably will not have the time to order something online.

  1. Frat Boy

My personal favorite is the frat boy. You probably already have all of the items you would need for this costume or could snag them from a friend, making this one perfect for your college budget! This simple costume lets you embrace the stereotypical frat boy personality and makes for a night of fun.

What you need:

  • Button-Down Shirt
  • Baseball Cap (backward)
  • Ankle Socks
  • Sneakers

  1. Tourist

This is another costume where you probably have most items already, making this perfect for procrastinators and groups. If you don’t already have a Hawaiian shirt and can’t find one from a friend, the thrift store is your number one option! Spice up your costume with a fanny pack, bucket hat, and a camera to take pictures of all the sights you see on Halloween.

What you need:

  • Hawaiian Shirt
  • Shorts
  • Socks and Sandals

  • Fanny Pack
  • Camera
  • Bucket Hat

  1. Risky Business

Risky Business, an iconic movie scene from 1983, is still loved by all ages. This simple costume will keep you sliding and singing all night long. If you don’t already have the items, you should be able to find these at the thrift store or Walmart.

What you need:

  • White Button-Down Shirt
  • Boxer Shorts
  • White Socks

  1. Cowboy/Cowgirl

Perfect for a solo costume or a couple’s costume; this costume really only needs the hat to be complete and is easy to customize with whatever you like! The thrift store is the perfect place to find what you need. If you have trouble finding a cowboy hat, you can find one here with Amazon Prime’s two-day shipping.

What you need:

  • A Cowboy Hat
  • Jeans

  • Cowboy Boots
  • Western Shirt
  • Bandana

  1. Lifeguard

If you aren’t ready for winter, this might be the costume to keep you in summer a little longer. Red and white are your essentials, if you don’t want to buy a lifeguard shirt. Amazon has many options for lifeguard tank tops, t-shirts, and hoodies for you to explore if you choose to purchase one. You can find a fanny pack and whistle here from Amazon too.

What you need:

  • Lifeguard Shirt
  • Whistle

  • Sunscreen on nose
  • Red or White Fanny Pack
  • Lifeguard hat

  1. Firefighter

The most important part of this costume is the hat, which you can find here. The thrift store might even have some actual firefighter gear! Spice up your costume with red suspenders that you can find here for only $6.99.

What you need:

  • Firefighter Hat

  • Red Suspenders

  1. Professional Athlete

It can’t be easier than this! All you need is a jersey and you can be your favorite professional athlete.  If you don’t have one, you can 100% find one from a friend.

What you need:

  • Any Jersey

  1. Referee

If you find yourself yelling at the referees through the TV, this is your chance to make the right calls! You can find everything you need from Dick’s Sporting Goods or you can order a set that includes a shirt, whistle, and flag for $15.99 here.

What you need:

What you need:

  • Safety Vest/Shirt (Safety Yellow, Safety Orange, Reflective)
  • Construction Hard Hat

  1. Lumberjack

You definitely will be able to stay warm with this costume, and you probably already have a flannel. Spice up the look with suspenders and a plastic axe that you find here. If you don’t have a beard and want to spice up your costume, here is a link on how to create one with makeup.

What you need:

  • Flannel Shirt
  • Jeans

  • Suspenders
  • Plastic Axe

  1. Biker

All you need is a Harley Davidson shirt and a bandana for this costume. If you have any leather pieces, they are the perfect to pair to this. Really sell it with some temporary tattoos that you can find here.

What you need:

  • Harley Davidson Shirt
  • Black or Orange Bandana

  • Anything leather
  • Temporary Tattoos

  1. Nerd

A classic costume you can pull right out of your closet. All you need to pull off this costume a button-down and your calculator. Add some glasses and suspenders to really sell it!

What you need:

  • Button-Down Shirt
  • Calculator and pens for your shirt pocket
